Overview

Nasi Beringin Tanjung Agas, nestled in the industrial heart of Muar, Johor, serves up a meal experience that is both traditional and comforting. This humble restaurant specializes in Nasi Beringin—a fragrant long grain rice, subtly infused with herbs, making it moist and flavorful without overwhelming the palate. It’s a signature dish that stands out not just for its aroma but also for its versatility, pairing well with an array of rich and savory lauk.

The menu highlights reflect the diversity of Malay cuisine, with standout offerings like Ayam Masak Merah, Beringin Kambing, and Murtabak Daging—each prepared with a masterful balance of spices and textures. The Ayam Masak Merah, tender chicken cooked in a tangy, slightly sweet tomato-based sauce, complements the soft and flaky roti canai served alongside fragrant kari kambing. These dishes invite diners to explore a spectrum of flavors, from the robust sambal sotong to the humble yet satisfying nasi goreng kampung, blending simplicity with depth.

Located at Batu 5, Kawasan Perindustrian Tanjung Agas, the eatery attracts both locals and travelers, especially food enthusiasts who venture into Muar’s culinary terrain. The space itself is unpretentious, focused more on delivering authentic tastes than elaborate décor. This straightforward charm is part of its appeal, aligning with the rustic and hearty nature of the food. While parking might present a challenge, the food’s quality rewards any inconvenience.

From the nostalgic fondness shared by long-time patrons to newcomers discovering the joy of roti canai paired with kari kambing, Nasi Beringin Tanjung Agas offers a genuine dining experience. It caters well to those who appreciate traditional Malay delicacies prepared with care, especially the lovers of rice-based meals accompanied by richly spiced meats. Whether you come craving a quick, satisfying lunch or a deeply flavorful dinner, this spot holds a quiet but steadfast reputation in Muar’s food scene.

In essence, the combination of the unique nasi beringin rice, versatile lauk options, and the warm, inviting atmosphere makes this restaurant a must-try for anyone eager to taste authentic Johorean Malay cuisine. It stands as a testament to the rich culinary heritage of the region, where every dish tells a story of flavor and tradition.

Used to be regular customer when I was staying near that area many years ago, and still craving for this Nasi Beringin. The rice itself is very tasty and kind of juicy a bit, you just can eat it w/o the curry or any of the available "lauk". Looking at the chicken, beef and mutton cooked in various styles you will be spoilt for choice, you want to try all, you want to eat all.
